Prudence Foundation donates 50MFCFA to support COVID-19 relief efforts.

The donation was channeled through the "Coeur et vie Foundation", a non-profit organisation dedicated to fight of cardiovascular diseases in Africa. It is part of Prudential's solidarity programme that was launched in 2020.

The programme has as aim to financial support communities severely impacted by the pandemic. It identified frontline charitable community projects and Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, that can help protect children, elderly families hit by poverty. This year's donation is the third since its initial phase under the banner "My best follow-up: You in our Hearts".

According to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Prudential Beneficial Cameroon, Handsome Brain Nkwenti, the initial support focused more on providing protective kits to workers and communities, advocacy and delivery of vaccines and medical supplies. The second edition in 2022, had the Coeur et vie Foundation, reach out to create awareness and encourage communities to get vaccinated.

Coeur et Vie foundation's recent field report suggested that, COVID-19 had mostly affected elderly people who are hypertensive, diabetic. These group of people are mostly at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and other related health complications. 

"There is still need to support those who have developed complications and those with conditions predisposing them to being infected such as those with chronic respiratory infections," Nkwenti said.

"Prudential remains that company that helps people get the most out of life. Over the past years, the company has sponsored various activities geared towards safety campaigns, financial literacy, health, which is the top priority in our mission to help people get the most out of life," he added.

With the new donation, Prudence Foundation envisages to provide and establish a proper system of follow up for patients with digitalised schemes. This is because medics say delay in health care delivery may cause a cardiac patient to die. But digital innovations provide possibilities for follow-up of treatment even in remote areas.

The campaign will run for over five months reaching out to hospitals, educating frontline community workers in managing patients with coronavirus and cardiovascular diseases. The selected hospital are located in five of the ten regions in Cameroon. These are Centre, Littoral, North, East and South regions.

Patients will be provided with free medical care for up to 12 months. The project is expected to impact approximately 3.5 million persons in Cameroon between now and October 2023.

It should be recalled that in 2022, the company had made donations to eight facilities in the country. Their outreaches had been profitable to Community dwellers as some 2,537 persons had free medical consultations. 

The Founder and president of the Coeur et vie Foundation, Dr Amel Florent Djomou, noted that routine medical control is important to prevent possible hazards that may be caused if a person gets infected with coronavirus.
