CAMTEL, FECAFOOT seal deal to promote Corporate, Veteran football.

Leading telecommunications company, Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, and the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, have sealed a deal to promote corporate and veteran football in the country.

The one-year deal with a renewal option was signed Monday April 17 in Yaounde. The General Manager of CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi signed on behalf of the state corporation while FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils, signed for the federation.

The corporate and veteran football tournament has been baptised Blue Corpo Championship.

Though further details of the contract was not made public, CAMTEL is however expected to provide financial and material support to FECAFOOT to ensure proper organisation of the tournament.

According to the General Manager of CAMTEL, the deal is an eloquent prove of her company’s willingness as the incumbent operator and key player in the telecommunications sector, to lend support to ambitious projects embarked by the President of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o Fils.

“We are extremely pleased with the signing of this partnership with FECAFOOT. We want to support football as we have been doing with other sports disciplines. As the corporate citizen company that we are, we want to continue giving back to our communities and sports is a great opportunity for us,” Judith Yah Sunday said.

She added that football represents a lot to Cameroonians and the entire world. She stressed that the deal will also serve a platform for CAMTEL to market its product, Blue.

Speaking before penning the deal on behalf of the country’s football governing body, Eto’o Fils, thanked CAMTEL for believing in FECAFOOT’s ambitious projects aimed at giving a new image to football in Cameroon.

“We are happy to have CAMTEL as one of the key partners in the promotion of football in Cameroon. We thank CAMTEL for trusting us as we prepare to launch the first edition of the Corporate Championship. We look forward to a successful partnership,” Eto’o Fils stated.

Monday’s agreement came to crown a process of fruitful discussion between the two entities which started in January this year with an audience granted Samuel Eto’o by the General Manager of CAMTEL.

At that audience, the FECAFOOT boss had presented his vision for Cameroon football and avenues for CAMTEL to accompany him in his mission.

The signing of the deal ended with FECAFOOT president handing a customised jersey of the Cameroon national football team to the General Manager of CAMTEL, with her name inscribed on it.

About Blue Corpo Championship

The tournament in its maiden edition will take place in six regions; Littoral, South, South West, Centre, Adamawa and North Regions. The participation teams drawn from various companies will battle for the top prize.

The tournament will hold first at the regional levels. After this, a national final will be played among the regional champions to determine the winner.

It has not been stated how many clubs will compete at the level of the regions. The Executive Committee of FECAFOOT charged with the management of the tournament has outlined the conditions to be fulfilled by clubs wishing to take part in the competition. The registration fee for each club has been fixed at 100,000 FCFA.

CAMTEL not new to sports sponsorship

The deal sealed by FECAFOOT comes to add to a numbers of sponsorship agreements CAMTEL already has with some other sports federations in the country.

CAMTEL General Manager mentioned the company’s sponsorship in the domains of athletics, golf, volleyball, cycling among many others.

It should be noted that the telecommunications company sponsors many competitions, among them the National Volleyball Championship and the Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour. The structure at one moment was the lead sponsor of the Mt Cameroon Race.
