Bafoussam: Lady arrested for allegedly throwing baby into toilet after birth.

A 32-year-old lady, whose name The Guardian Post got as Raissa Moukoua, has been arrested in Bafoussam, Mifi Division of the West Region. She is being accused of allegedly giving birth to a child and throwing in a pit toilet.

The newborn is said to have been rescued from the pit toilet Monday April 10. The incident happened in an area called Gabon Bar in the Banengo neighborhood.

Sources present at the scene are quoted as having disclosed that it was the cry of the newborn that caught the attention of passersby.

When security forces were alerted, they swung to action and arrested the woman suspected to have committed the act. The baby was later removed from the pit toilet, cleaned and rushed to the Bafoussam Regional Hospital.

Interrogated, Moukoua is reported to have denied all accusations. She is rather reported to have told police officers that she did not know she was pregnant.

Her son, other accounts hold, rather gave a different account of what transpired. The son is said to have disclosed that Moukouna gave birth at home, cut the umbilical cord, put the newborn in a bucket and asked him to throw it in a latrine. The son is said to have been forced to dump the child in the toilet against his wish.

32-year-old Raissa Moukoua, we gathered, is a mother of six children. She is said to be having it difficult to survive with the children. She was taken into detention while investigations have been opened into the matter.
