Akwaya: Military raids Mago village, kills 10 Amba fighters, seizes weapons….

This was during a recent raid in Mago village in Mbolo Court Area in the administrative unit. The raid was carried out by soldiers of the Sixth Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, with headquarters in Mambanda, Kumba.

It aimed at getting rid of Amba fighters who have been operating in the area and wreaking havoc on the population. 

According to the Commander of the Sixth BIR Region, Colonel Danzabe Rene, the raid was in response to the cry of the people to once again live a normal lifestyle away from the atrocities committed by separatist fighters masquerading as Anglophone freedom fighters. 

Col. Danzabe said after the raid, three pistols, ten rifles, two Ambazonian flags, military bulletproofs, shoes and some charms were siezed.

Speaking to The Guardian Post by phone, the Divisional Officer, DO of Akwaya Subdivision, Mbua Augustine, reechoed the fervent appeal of the Head of State, Paul Biyua, for young people still carrying arms in bushes to drop their weapons and come out and join in the development of their area. 

Mago, the DO said, will witness relative peace now but he called on the villagers to be vigilant as the enemy still looms. He called on everyone in the village to denounce Amba boys still hiding in the villages.

The Divisional Officer hailed the defense and security forces for their actions in ensuring security in the area. He called on the population of the area to continue their collaboration with the forces of law and order as normalcy returns.

A source in Akwaya, who is familiar with the incident, told The Guardian Post that the village of Mago has for long been invaded by Amba fighters and the people were living by God's mercy.

Mago, the source further said, is one of the 53 villages that make up the Mbolo Court Area in the southern part of Akwaya Subdivision. The village, our source further said, is 15 miles away from neighbouring Nigeria and 25 miles from the Sub-divisional headquarters, Akwaya.

Our source blamed the proliferation of arms in the area on the porous borders and difficult access because of the rough terrain.

Akwaya Subdivision has suffered from Amba atrocities because of its topography. Observers say much has to be done to completely rid the area of Amba fighters and ensure the security of the people and their properties.
