At trophy presentation tour: PM Dion Ngute offers 10 million FCFA support to Victoria United.

The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, has offered a financial support of 10 million FCFA to South West Region Elite One club, Victoria United of Limbe.

The financial support was handed to the club's management Tuesdayat the Star Building in Yaounde. The package is an encouragement to the club after it emerged champions of the 2023/2024 MTN Elite One season.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the team confirmed the  support from the Head of Government and words of encouragement for them to keep the impressive performance of the club.

The Prime Minister, an elite of the South West Region, said he was extremely happy that the club made the Region proud by winning the League One championship.

The PM congratulated the club president, technical staff and players for putting in their all to achieve the feat.

He expressed the wish to see the club honourably fly the flag of Cameroon in the CAF Champions League next season.

Victoria United which emerged winners of the League One champions on Thursday April 17, at the close of the playoffs tournament in Douala, are currently on a trophy tour in some Regions of the country.

Club President thanks PM for multifaceted support

Speaking to reporters after the reception at the Prime Minister’s Office, the President of Victoria United, Valentine Nkwain, expressed gratitude to Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute for standing by the club, especially in their most difficult moments.

“Getting to this position, winning the championship title was not easy. At one point, I decided to give up, he called me and tried to talk to me. He makes things work. He also organized the field. He did a lot of things for the club and we cannot start celebrating without bringing what we brought from the bush to present it to him,” Nkwain recalled.

He said after winning the league trophy, they are now looking forward to reinforce the squad ahead of the CAF inter-club competition.

“In two weeks, we will begin recruitment in preparation for next season to strengthen our squad in view of the CAF Champions League,” he said, assuring that “the first assurance that I can give is that we will cross where many Cameroonian clubs have not gone”.

He further noted that after the recruitment, “we will be able to tell you if we will be able to win the African competition”. 

The President of the South West bureau of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Ndazeh Valerie, expressed gratitude to government and especially President Paul Biya for the football infrastructure constructed in the Region.

He said such facilities have permitted for young football talents to be showcased. 

“When Tiko United was champion, they played their games in Yaounde. Today, Victoria United will be opportune to play their games in Limbe thanks to the Head of State who has  constructed these beautiful infrastructures in Limbe that can host international games. It is going to create more dreams for the younger generation,” Ndazeh remarked

Apart from their visit to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Elite One champions were also received by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga and her counterpart of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Insdustry, Dr Taiga. 

The club continues the trophy presentation tour today with stopovers in Douala in the Littoral Region and some towns of the South West Region.

The trophy presentation tour is an initiative of MTN Cameroon, major sponsors of the league.
