Yaounde: Professional guide to help mayors better utilise potentials in councils unveiled.

The Director General of a publishing house known as Edifice Publicite Cameroun, EPUCAM Sarl, Aimé Michel Kamande, has unveiled a professional guide in the form of a magazine, intended to help municipal and regional authorities to have a mastery of the economic and cultural potentials of their councils as well as potential investment areas.

The 350-page magazine printed in colour is titled: Répertoire Professionnel des Maires du Cameroon 2020-2025”. It was presented to the press in Yaounde Wednesday April 17.

Speaking to reporters, Kamande noted that the idea to publish this guide in partnership with councils in the country follows a personal experience.

“I came back to the country in 2018 after several years abroad and I had a programme to carry out in the town of Edea. While there, I passed through hell to know the various councils and administrative offices. At a point I had to pay to be shown this or that place,” Kamande said.

This experience, he said, got him thinking. “I felt bad and told myself if we had a guide book that shows us the different places in the country, things would have been much better…,” he stated.

The magazine, he added, is an attempt to respond to the ambitious objectives of each mayor and their council for the wellbeing of the population.

He went on to note that, it equally seeks to better inform partners and potential investors on the possible investment areas in the economic and cultural sector.

“Our target is to get descentralised authorities closer to the population and help them better understand their area,” he stated, adding that the guide summarises the vision and projects in their communities.

Through the initiative, he stated that EPUCAM is working with councils and their partners to identify potential areas of investment which will in turn create jobs for thousands of unemployed, especially the youth.

He disclosed that the Edea I Council in the Sanaga Maritime Division of the Littoral Region has already welcomed their initiative and have engaged some new projects which will largely benefit young people in the municipality.

The EPUCAM Director General stated they are looking to sell their vision to more councils across the country.
